Fucina degli Angeli "Face" by Max Ernst

  •  This very rare glass piece was made in 1964 by Fucina degli Angeli (forge of angels) a name given by Jean Cocteau to  the original glass-factory “Centro Studio Pittori Arte del Vetro,” Murano.

  • The Fucina was an incredible workshop that, thanks to Peggy Guggenheim’s passion for modern art, put together the visionary desire of Egidio Costantini to create a completely new way to create glass in Murano, exceeding the limits that the tradition was imposing,  with the incredible contemporary art expressed by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Lucio Fontana, Georges Braque, Reuven Rubin, Jean Arp, Max Ernst just to name a few.
  • Made of Alexandrite glass (neodymium glass), it changes color according to different lights conditions; lilac under natural or yellow artificial light, it looks smokey blue when exposed to white/fluorescent light. (please, see pictures).
  • The tile is signed on the back.
  • Dimensions: 6.7” x 7.8” or 19 x 17 cm
  • Perfect condition
