THE VENICE GLASS WEEK is the international festival that the city of Venice dedicates to the art of glass. The fourth edition, #TheHeartOfGlass, will take place from 5th to 13th September 2020. With a programme of exhibitions, demonstrations, guided tours, online events and more, this year’s festival will place a special focus on the “making” of glass: the artistic and productive activity which has been deeply embedded in the Lagoon City’s DNA for over a thousand years, and for which Murano continues to be renowned and celebrated around the world.

Murano. Milano. Venezia. Glass
What: Museum exhibition
Where: The Design Museum, Munich
When: July 1 through October 16
Cost: 10 euros (about $11)
Since the calice a spirale (spiral chalice) seen here debuted at Venice’s first design festival in 1895, the glass creations coming out of Murano, Italy, have set the standard for artisanal glass. This exhibition focuses on some 200 objects and corresponding drawings from the Holz Collection in Berlin, one of the world’s most important private collections of Murano glass. The exhibition highlights a large selection of glasses, which not only set standards in Milan and Venice but also changed the concept of modern glass internationally.
Colorful pieces such as this vase created in a Murano glass studio in 1952 are among the more than 200 pieces on display.
